Frequently Asked Questions

Why does PingPing need location permission?
Location permission is used to send your location to guardians during emergencies (SOS, offline detection). We never use it for daily tracking or advertising. You can disable location permission in system settings at any time.
Why does PingPing need background refresh?
Background refresh is used to periodically send heartbeat signals so the system knows your device is online. This way, when your device goes unexpectedly offline, the system can promptly notify your guardians.
How do I add guardians?
Open the App, tap "Add Guardian". You can:
1. Enter their phone number or email to add a one-way guardian (they don't need the app)
2. Generate a guardian code for them to scan and add two-way guardianship
What's the difference between one-way and two-way guardians?
One-way guardian: Someone you add (they don't need the App) who receives your emergency notifications via SMS or email.
Two-way guardian: Both parties use the App and can view each other's status and location, providing mutual protection.
What does SOS send to my guardians?
When you press the SOS button, the system sends an emergency notification to all your guardians, including:
• Your nickname
• Time of emergency
• Your current location (if authorized)
• A clickable map link
How do I delete my account?
Open the App → Settings → Account Management → Delete Account. After deletion, all your data will be cleared from our servers within 30 days.
Does PingPing drain my battery?
PingPing is optimized with smart heartbeat mechanisms and only requests location when necessary, resulting in minimal battery impact. If you notice unusual battery drain, check if your location permission is set to "While Using" or "Always".
How do voice call alerts work?
When an emergency alert is triggered, PingPing automatically calls your guardians and speaks the alert message in their preferred language (9 languages supported). The message is repeated twice. Available on Standard plan (SOS only, 5 calls/month) and Premium plan (all alerts, 15 calls/month). Note: Voice calls are not available for China mainland (+86) numbers due to carrier restrictions.
What phone number format is required?
All phone numbers must use the international E.164 format starting with + and a country code. For example: +1 (US), +86 (China), +81 (Japan), +44 (UK). The app provides a country code picker — just select your country and enter the local number.
Why can't my China (+86) number receive voice calls?
Due to telecom regulations, automated voice calls cannot be made to China mainland (+86) phone numbers. Your guardians with +86 numbers will still receive SMS and email notifications. Voice call alerts work for phone numbers in most other countries.
